Language of Azerbaijani laws may be simplified

Language of Azerbaijani laws is difficult, and a number of terms, use of which are not necessary, may be removed, the Parliamentary Culture Committee Chairman Nizami Jafarov told journalists.

It is not necessary to use the word "on", use of which in normative legal acts was borrowed from the Russian language, Jafarov said.

He said that there are many issues to be submitted for discussion, but there are divergence of opinion between specialists and philologists in this sphere.

"For example, lawyers are against the indistinctness in the language of laws, which could lead to disputes. Moreover, the language of the sentence passed by court is difficult to understand by ordinary citizens," he said.

Jafarov said the parliament is responsible for language of laws. However, Azerbaijan is a newly independent state, and the creation of style is a difficult process, he added.
