Azerbaijan's state committee to launch petrocheical laboratory

The Azerbaijani State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents plans to commission a lab by late 2011 that will do research in the field of petrocheicals, head of the State Committee Ramiz Hasanov said at a press conference at the headquarters of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party.

"The work is underway to establish a new laboratory. We plan to commission it until late 2011," Hasanov said.

He said that establishing such a laboratory is a necessity to improve the quality of domestic petrochemical products and increase their competitiveness in international markets. Hasanov said that the work is under completion to establish the Oil and Gas Committee, which will be responsible for developing national standards in these areas.

The committee will reconsider all existing standards in oil and gas. It will determine whether they correspond to the modern requirements, then an action plan will be prepared.

SOCAR will chair in the committee.
