Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities holds hearing on municipal elections in Azerbaijan

The hearing will be continued in the Bureau’s meeting in Paris on Feb. 5, the Congress’ secretariat said.

Final text of the report will be heard at the Congress’ meeting in Strasbourg on March 17.

The monitoring mission headed by Turkish parliamentarian Gaye Doganoglu observed the municipal election in Azerbaijan on Dec. 23, 2009.

The mission declared preliminary results of its observation at a press conference on the next day after the voting.

It said the elections were organized at a high level from the technical point of view, but voters’ turnout was lower.
