Bill on “Participation of Azerbaijan in peacekeeping operations” adopted by parliament in first reading

The Azerbaijani parliament adopted the Bill on “Participation of Azerbaijan in peacekeeping operations” in first reading o Oct. 27.
Member of the parliament’s security and defense committee Siyavush Novruzov reported about the document.

He said Azerbaijani servicemen have joined the peacekeeping operations in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan so far.

The document identifies regulations, forms and rules of participation of the countries in the peacekeeping operations aimed at prevention of local and regional wars, settlement and solution to the conflicts.

“The draft law contains four chapters and 19 articles describing internationally legal basis and necessary conditions of the participation in the peacekeeping operations, functions of military and civil staffs that have attended the missions, as well as observation of international humanitarian law norms during the operation."
