23 July 2009 [08:55] - TODAY.AZ
Present state of Azerbaijani press can be appreciated as positive, head of the Public and Political Department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov said at the meeting on 134-th-anniversary of Azerbaijani press.
If take into account that Azerbaijani public is not short of information and regularly provided with impartial and timely news, present state of press can be appreciated as positive," Hasanov said.

One of major problems of press is financing, Hasanov said.

"While monitoring present material-technical base of press and social state of Azerbaijani journalist, one can see that situation is not satisfactory," he said.

Hasanov said that press must develop as commercial organization and bring profit to meet material needs of journalists.

Hasanov said that skills of journalists and press does not meet requirements of authorities and most part of public.

"Perhaps, there are a small number of specialists in Azerbaijani press. It affects realization of press functions," he added.

Press employees, owners of newspapers and magazines, as well as their editors-in-chief must demonstrate will to address existing problems, Hasanov said.

"Nonprofessional publications must not appear in press," Hasanov said.
