Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree to inject amendments to the law on Freedom of Religion, AzerTaj state news agency reported.

Under the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers is instructed to submit to the president proposals on bringing the existing legislation into conformity with the decree on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on Freedom of Religion.
The cabinet is also instructed to bring the legal acts of the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers and relevant bodies of executive power into conformity with the law.
According to the decree, religious leaders who run facilities for prayers will be appointed by the Caucasus Muslims Office in consultation with the relevant executive authorities. Activities related to the Islamic religion can only be conducted under the guidance of the Azerbaijani citizens who have received religious education in the country.
