Court dismisses appeal of Azadlyg newspaper correspondent Mirza Sakit about early release

He said the court hearing was held under the chairmanship of judge Elshan Veliyev in correctional facility No 10.

"Judge of the Narimanov district Veliyeva decided to dismiss Sakit's request about early release. The court motivated the decision by saying that the journalist did not admit his guilt", noted Ashurov.

The defender said he intends to appeal to high court instances.

Notably, on December 18 defender Isakhan Ashurov appealed to the Narimanov district court with a request about early release of Azadlyg newspaper correspondent Mirza Sakit.

It should be reminded that Azadlyg newspaper correspondent Mirza Sakit was arrested on June 23 of 2006. During the arrest the police confiscated on him 10 grams of heroine after which the Court of Grave Crimes sentenced him to 3 years in prison. Currently, the journalist has to serve about 6 months in prison.
