Seven presidential candidates failed to submit signature sheets to CEC in appointed time

7 out of 21 men, who had put forward their candidacy in the presidential elections, failed to collect signatures of 40,000 voters and submit them to the Central Election Commission (CEC) in the required time.

Spokesman for CEC Azer Sariyev told APA that candidate of New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Ilham Aliyev, chairman of Umid (Hope) Party Igbal Agazadeh, chairman of Modern Musavat Party Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of United Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Great Establishment Party Fazil Gazanfaroglu. Chief of "Green Policy" Initiative Group Mais Gulaliyev, poet Agaevli Isa, chairman of Azerbaijan Liberal Democratic Party Fuad Aliyev and independent candidate Gulamhuseyn Alibayli collected 40,000 signatures and submitted them to CEC by 18.00 on September 5.

Alimukhtar Akbarov (unemployed) gave back blank signature sheets to the CEC.

Four self-nominated candidates – Teymur Guliyev, Fikrat Ahadov, Mubariz Allahverdiyev and Intigam Mammadov withdrew their candidacies.

Leading scientific worker of Physics Institute of National Academy of Sciences Gudrat Isagov told media that he had withdrawn his candidacy, but did not officially appeal to CEC. That’s why, his name is among those who have not returned signature sheets.

So, unemployed Yashar Ahmadov, hospital attendant Sevinj Guliyeva, doctor Vugar Seyidov, editor-in-chief of Ekspertiza newspaper Suleyman Guliyev, unemployed Arif Aliyev, head scientific worker of Literature Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Aliyar Safarli failed to return the signature sheets in time. Sariyev said Aliyar Safarli and Arif Aliyev brought signature sheets to CEC after 18.00, therefore they were not accepted.
