
The Nasimi district court presided by judge Shahin Abdullayev held a court hearing on the case of homosexual Sergey Strekalin, accused of stabbing Azadlyg newspaper correspondent Agil Halil, reports the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety.
During the hearing journalist's defender Elchin Sadikhov present with a petition to invite Azadlyg newspaper correspondents Agha Jabarli, Vidadi Mamedov and Parviz Jebrailov as witnesses to the court.
The defender noted that they have seen the people, pursuing Halil, therefore, there is a need for their presence in the court.
The state prosecutor opposed the petition and the judge did not grant it.
Speaking as witnesses Natik Rustamov and Rauf Javadov announced that drugs were found in Strekalin's flat.
The state prosecutor and Strekalin's defender asked several questions to witnesses, but judge did not allow Elchin Sadikhov to ask question as well.
Strekalin's driver Eldar Rasulov noted that it was dark on the day of incident and light was off in the car.
He noted that a man, arguing with Sergey, was dark with long hair. Rasulov announced that he does not know Agil Halil.
The next court hearing will be held on July 11 at 11.00 am.
