Chief of AZAL Aviation Security Service faces charges of high treason

Investigation into the case of Emil Suleymanov, chief of the Aviation Security Service of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) and others have been completed and submitted to the Court of Grave Crimes, according to Irada Javadova, lawyer for the service official Tamerlan Mikayilov.

The lawyer said her client faced charges under articles 228.1 (Illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation or carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies (except for the smooth-bore hunting weapon and ammunition to it), explosives), 234.1 (Illegal purchase or storage without a purpose of selling of narcotics or psychotropic substances in a quantity (amount) exceeding amounts required for personal consumption) and 302.2 (Infringement of the legislation on operative - search activity) of the Criminal Code.

Sources from the court reported that the materials of the criminal case have recently been submitted to the court and the court consideration is pending.

As is reported, Emil Suleymanov faced charges under articles 228.1, 274 (high treason), 308 (abuse of power) and engineer of the service Tahir Asadzadeh faced charges under articles 228.1, 302.2 and 308.1 of the Criminal Code.

The defendants are kept in the detention place of National Security Ministry.

Asadzadeh was detained in late June, Mikayilov on August 1, Suleymanov on September 6 and the others were arrested later.
