17 May 2007 [10:37] - TODAY.AZ
"The verdict about editor-in-chief of and editor of Mukhalifet (Opposition) newspaper Rovshen Kebirli and Yashar Agazade is very severe. The Press Council never supports arresting media representatives for their articles," commenting on the arrest of editor-in-chief of and editor of the newspaper, chief of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov told.

He regretted that it happens when the draft law on defamation is often debated basing on recommendations of international organizations, Press Council and other journalist institutions, APA reports.

"Pres Council is doing its best to release the arrested journalists. Certainly, we express our position on the correspondents of Mukhalifet newspaper. It will be debated at the meeting of the Council and present the document to the relevant bodies. Arresting journalists for their expression is unacceptable," he said.
