GM Gadir Guseinov leads Dubai Open Chess

Grandmasters Gadir Guseinov of Azerbaijan and Tamaz Gelashvili of Georgia maintained their lead with 4.5 points after the fifth round of Dubai Open Chess Championship held at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club.

Gadir and Tamaz were aided by fine wins in the fifth round which took them to top of the standings.

Gadir said "I held a slight edge in my match against Sundarajan Kidambi and in a queen and pawn endgame I won with endgame technique."

Tamaz had to work hard for his win over Elather Fouad in a rook endgame. Tamaz said "I got a better piece position but it was my advanced king which clinched the issue."

GM Sadvakasov Darmen and GM Kotsur Pavel of Kazakhstan, GM Adly Ahmad of Egypt, GM Pantsulaia Levan and GM Sturua Zurab of Georgia, GM Ghaem Maghami Ehsan and FM Alavi Sayed Javad of Iran, GM Anastasian Ashot and GM Kotanjian Tigran of Armenia, GM Megaranto Susanto of Indonesia, GM Al Modiahki Mohamad of Qatar and IM Safarli Eltaj are half a point behind the leaders.
