Mahyaddin Allahverdiyev: "We should not invite legioners"

He said that he is satisfied with the competition of our wrestlers.

"Azerbaijan has strong wrestlers like World champions Rovshen Bayramov, Taleh Israfilov, Elbrus Memmedli. I liked their competition in the World Championship among servicemen. Azerbaijani wrestlers were among the medal winners in the world, European, Olympic and the USSR championships."

Allahverdiyev also touched upon the problem of inviting legionaries to the national team. He said thet there is no need for it.

"We should not invite a legioner. We cheat ourselves. They will win medals and leave Azerbaijan. We should take second- or third-rate Azerbaijani wrestlers in stead of foreign ones. The level of Azerbaijan wrestling will be clear after 2007 World Wrestling Championship in Baku. We should gain licenses as much as possible to The World Championship and Olympic Games in Beijing," he said.

Allahverdiyev also spoke about the participation of Armenian sportsmen in 2007 World Wrestling Championship in Baku and said that we should not politicize sport.

He stated that an honoured Azerbaijani wrestler will not let Armenian to defeat him.
