27 July 2006 [15:00] - TODAY.AZ
"Pollution of the Kyur River by Armenia and Georgia arouses concern for Azerbaijan using the river waters for drinking. The analyze of the sample waters taken from the part of the river running into the Caspian Sea shows that the waters can be used only in industry," Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry official Arif Isghenderov told journalists.

He said drinking water pipeline is being constructed for Absheron peninsula and Baku from Oguz-Gabala in order to prevent using the Kyur water for drinking.

The Ministry official also said the pollution of waters turns out to be global problem, APA reports.

"There are plants to clean polluted waters in only 35 of 75 cities and regions of Azerbaijan. And most lack to work in full power, which leads to the pollution of waters and erosion of soils," Isghenderov underlined.
