Abulfaz Garayev: "We are going to take tough approach in protecting cultural values"

As Trend reports, project of the new structure and stature has passed through all the bodies and now is reviewed by the Executive apparatus of the Azerbaijani President, the Minister said. Project includes expansion of the Ministry's functions, creation of some new sectors i.e. of music, art and sculpture etc. New stature will help to expand the Ministry's activity and create new tasks, he said.

A special working group was created by the Ministry to work out a new concept of the development of culture. A new legislature in that area is also needed, the Minister said. Several suggestions and recommendations were sent to the parliament offering a number of changes and supplements to existing laws.

Garayev also considers one of the vital tasks of the ministry is to develop the cinema; resume work of the cinema theaters in 2-3 years and start movie production. Ministry also has conceptions aimed at developing the activity of libraries, museums and other important areas of culture.

Special approach to the cultural values of Azerbaijan would also be created, the Minister said. "Ministry will take a tougher approach in protecting the cultural values of Azerbaijan," he concluded.

Considering the statements of the Hermitage director, Minister stated that he does not consider these words as neither cultural nor scientific position of the Russian society and they only confirm the historical and kinship roots of the Hermitage director. "We are not waiting for the official response from the Hermitage, instead we recommend to take the more just and reasonable position," he said.
