Hunting season declared open

The season for hunting has been declared open and now hunting enthusiasts can enjoy the excitements Azerbaijan offers.

Azerbaijan, located in the south-eastern part of the Transcaucasian region, has nine of eleven possible climatic zones. The country enjoys a great diversity of flora and fauna, and is kind of a heaven for hunters. Here, in the different periods of the year, hunters can hunt for Dagestan wild ox, wild pig, hare, wood pigeons, quail, partridge, waterfowl, sandpiper, woodcock, and chamois.

With the arrival of summer, hunters have been eagerly awaiting the official opening of the hunting season. For many, hunting remains a very enjoyable experience - both challenging and exhilarating.

Hunts in Azerbaijan is allowed only within a hunting sector and in accordance with the hunting season schedule approved by the Ecology Ministry.  However, hunting is prohibited in certain areas, including National Parks and reserves.

Visitors from abroad are allowed to hunt on the territory of the country if they have hunting permission issued by the local authorities.  Local tourism companies organize hunting tours and can help foreigner with equipment, transport and permission.

The hunting season 2017-2018 was declared open on May 27 and will last until March 10, 2018.

The period of hunting for Dagestan goats will be from May 27, 2017 to October 14, 2017. Only one goat per group of hunters - no less than three people is allowed.

Boar hunting is allowed from September 16 until December 16, with one boar for no less than three hunters. Each hunter is allowed to catch only two hares from the period running from November 11, 2017 to January 13, 2018.

Some six lapwings per hunter have been allowed by the ministry in between September 16, 2017 and November 11, 2017.

Each hunter can kill one goose from October 14, 2017 to March 10, 2018. Duck hunting is open from October 14 until March 10 as well. Hunting only four ducks per person is allowed. The same period also applied for hunting on coot. A total of six coots are allowed for each hunter.

Those who want to acquire a hunting permit should apply to the Baku Ecology and Natural Resources Department and the Ecology and Natural Resources Departments, Milli.AZ reports.
