Body found off Turkmen coast - possibly of missing Azerbaijani oil worker

The investigation team and employees of the Azneft Production Association will leave for Turkmenistan in the next few hours to identify the body of the possibly missing oil worker and deliver it to Azerbaijan, the press service of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) told Trend Jan. 30.

A body was found on January 29 evening in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, and the Azerbaijani side was informed about this through diplomatic channels.

The search for oil workers, who went missing in an accident on the platform No. 10 of Azerbaijan’s Guneshli oil field and the platform No. 501 of the Oil Rocks field continues.

The fire broke out on the offshore platform Dec. 4, as a strong storm damaged an underwater high-pressure gas pipeline.

As many as 33 people were rescued in an ensuing large-scale operation. The bodies of 11 killed were retrieved, while 19 oil workers are still listed as missing.
