The Azerbaijani government is working to ensure transparency in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Now, each citizen seeking to monitor the voting which is scheduled for November 8 will have a chance to watch the process online on the Central Election Commission web-site.

Aztelekom and “Baku Telephone Communication” have started the technical work on installation of web cameras at polling stations, the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies reported.

Cameras are installed in order to increase public confidence in the elections.

Operators are planning to set web cameras in more than 1,000 polling stations in Azerbaijani regions and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Some 296 cameras will be installed in Baku polling stations.

According to the ministry, optical link will be used for video transmission.

The voting process will be available online and it will give voters the opportunity to interactively monitor the results coming from polling stations.

Polling stations will also be provided with reliable telephone and Internet access.

The practice of using web cameras in elections in Azerbaijan for the first time was used in 2008 presidential election. At the time web cameras were installed only in the 10 percent of polling stations over the country.

This technique was also used in 2009 constitutional referendum and municipal elections.
