"Sahil" metro station resumes operation - UPDATE - PHOTOS - VIDEO

Sahil metro station, the entrance and exit of which are located in a high-rise building in the centre of Baku, has been re-opened for passengers, Baku Metro told Trend on March 12.

Previously because of a fire in the building, the station's entrance and exit were completely closed to ensure the passengers' safety. Trains did not stop at the platform, but continued on to the next station.

"Both the entrance to and exit from the metro station were reopened and it is now receiving passengers," the Baku Metro said.

The building in Baku's centre where a fire broke out earlier, also houses the Sahil shopping centre and the Argentinean Embassy in Azerbaijan.

The Fire Fighting Service of the Azerbaijani Emergency Situations Ministry said the fire broke out in the building's third floor.

The service also said the fire was assigned a second difficulty category, the toughest being the first category.

The fire was extinguished within several hours and five people were injured in the blaze.

The Sahil subway station completely stopped receiving passengers in connection with a fire in a multi-storey building in Baku's center, Baku Metro told Trend on March 12.

"There is no threat to the safety of passengers," according to the information.

The Sahil shopping center and Argentine's embassy in Azerbaijan are located in the fire-affected building in Baku's center.

Fire started on the third floor of the building, the fire protection service of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations said on March 14.

The fire is of the second category (the first category is the hardest one). The entrance and exit to the building are blocked.

The firefighters arrived on the scene. The work is underway to extinguish the fire.

Argentine's embassy in Azerbaijan is also in this building.

One person felt bad, Baku City First and Urgent Medical Aid Station told Trend on March 12.

More than 10 fire engines and two emergency assistance teams arrived on the scene, the eyewitnesses said.
