Restoration work started on Maiden Tower

Restoration and museum-conservation works are started on the Maiden Tower within the special arrangements for storage of the historical-architectural monuments located in the territory, in compliance with the “Detailed Master Plan for Conservation of the Historical Center of Baku city” adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The planned works will be held by local and foreign specialists under supervision of Erich Pummer, a famous European restoration specialist who restored over 400 monuments in various places of the world, including the Muhammed Mosque located in Icherisheher. Special restoration materials made by “Remmers”, Germany will be used during restoration works.

Considering the uniqueness and inimitableness of the monument, before starting the overall restoration works in November 2009 the “Atelier Erich Pummer” implemented testing restoration works in the southwest side of the Maiden Tower.

The negative factors occurring in the Maiden Tower, the World Heritage Site of UNESCO, due to absence of necessary care and environment impact will be removed with usage of international experience and modern technologies and the monument will acquire the historical appearance.
