Foreign TV-series to be banned from May

11 April 2012 [08:25] - TODAY.AZ
Since 1 May Azerbaijan is to stop broadcasting of foreign TV soap operas. The National Broadcasting Council reports that instead of these series the Azerbaijani channels will begin broadcasting locally produced TV series.

"We’ve allocated grants to local TV channels for production of TV series, and each Azerbaijani channel is ready to provide in May a TV soap opera  produced by it,” the Councils said.

The channels are not restricted in their choice of soap opera subject, so the series will be on various subjects.

"We watched the new TV series, and believe that they are quite interesting and worthy of attention," the NBC added.

Recently, the Council has held a regular meeting at which all the Azerbaijani TV channels were awarded grants by 500,000 manats. As a whole, last September Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev endorsed allocation of 5 million manats for development of national TV films.

Previously Council’s head Nushiravan Maharramli informed that development of the national film industry will contribute to the maintenance of national values and traditions of Azerbaijan and bringing them to the younger generation.
