Inflation hit zero in Georgia in March

The inflation rate hit zero in Georgia in March as compared to the previous month, the Georgian Statistics Agency reported.

With the cost of food and beverages decreasing by 0.1%, the proportion in the general inflation rate was 0.05%. The price of milk, cheese and eggs decreased by 4.8 percent, vegetables and melons by 2.2% and sugar and confectionery products by 1.9%.

The prices for clothes and shoes were reduced by 2.8%. The prices on fuel increased by 4.3%, the exploitation of personal vehicles increased by 3.6% and transport services by 1.3%, in March.

The annual inflation rate was 13.9% in March 2011 as compared to the same period in 2010.

The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 28.8% and the annual inflation index hit 11.9%.

The prices of fruit increased by 65.5%, vegetables and melons by 41.1%, vegetable oil and fats by 36.5%, bread and bakery products by 25%, meat and meat products increased in price by 21.8%.
