09 March 2011 [12:34] - TODAY.AZ
Interior minister has announced that the Iranian police have seized over 400 tons of illicit drugs since March 21, 2010 which marked the beginning of the Iranian calendar year 1389, MEHR news agency reported.

Mostafa Mohammad Najjar made the announcement in Tehran on Monday on the sidelines of a ceremony during which 42 tons of crack and crystal meth (methamphetamine) were obliterated.

He also said that around 110 tons of drugs including 60 tons of crack will be obliterated by the end of the calendar year 1389 which falls on March 20, 2011.

Each ton of crack equals 15 tons of opium, Najjar stated.

Given the emphasis that the Supreme Leader has put on campaigning against drugs, a comprehensive plan has been drawn up to firmly deal with drug traffickers, the interior minister added.
