Iranian Parliament speaker: Iran to give crushing response to U.S.

The Islamic Republic will give a crushing response to the United States, Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani said, warning US against its role in the sedition movement in Iran, Press TV reported with reference to Majlis news agency (ICANA).

“Iran's Majlis will remain adamant on national interests and will not let interests of the nation be victimized,” said Larijani at the Majlis open session on Wednesday.

“Officials of the United States should know that Majlis monitors their moves with open eyes and will not let them play a childish and blind game,” he added.

The speaker noted that US President Barack Obama and other US officials made off-the-cuff remarks in response to the strong will of the regional nations.

He further explained that US officials were compelled to make those statements against the Iranian people's independence and strong resolve.

The Majlis speaker called on Iranian bodies to “watchfully and firmly fulfill their national and Islamic duty.”

Larijani's remarks came following a report released by a Majlis committee on various aspects of the sedition movement, supported by the US and its allies, and its latest unrest in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

On 14 February, thousands of demonstrators came out in Tehran and other major Iranian cities. Organizers called a rally in solidarity with protestors in Egypt and Tunisia. However, Iranian security forces suppressed demonstrations across the country, reportedly attacking crowds with tear gas, paint bullets, sticks, electric batons and live ammunition. There were reports that some demonstrators were killed.

The 14 February gatherings were not limited to Tehran. Demonstrators in Isfahan, Shiraz, Kermanshah, and Gilan province came out in significant numbers.
