Turkish mayor resigned, CHP happy to accept him as member

Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said he would be happy to accept Eskişehir Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen into the CHP.

Büyükerşen, a social democrat, recently resigned from the Democratic Left Party (DSP). Kılıçdaroğlu extended the invitation during a working lunch with members of the European Socialist Party (PES). Speaking to members of the press after the event, Kılıçdaroğlu said he would be happy to have Büyükerşen under the roof of the CHP, in response to a question over whether there was such a plan.

“There is only one roof for all social democrats. The strongest roof is the Republican People's Party. It is our duty to wait for all social democrats under this roof,” Kılıçdaroğlu said.

Büyükerşen has been mayor of Eskişehir for three consecutive terms since he was first elected in April of 1999.
