Erdogan says Turkey, Russia may remove visa requirement in May

06 April 2010 [12:35] - TODAY.AZ
Erdogan said Turkey had mutually lifted visa requirements with 25 countries since 2002.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Turkey and Russia might sign an agreement as early as May to remove visa requirement for their respective citizens when visiting each other's countries.

"Who would have thought that one day Turkey and Russia would scrap visa requirements. Now, Mr. Medvedev and Mr. Putin are positive on this. Most probably, we will sign with Mr. Medvedev a high-level strategic partnership document that would include the lifting of visa requirements," Erdogan told reporters in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Erdogan said Turkey had mutually lifted visa requirements with 25 countries since 2002.

"This is a sign of mutual trust. This is what Schengen countries are doing. So, why can't we?," he said.
