Opposition, police clash in Georgia

01 April 2010 [14:23] - TODAY.AZ
The Georgian police and opposition supporters clashed in Zugdidi, Western Georgia on March 31.
Opposition members of the National Council blocked the central highway, leading from the capital to the west.

They demanded to return the cars, which had been taken away from their supporters hours before. Police tried to unblock the highway, and the fight ensued.

Finally the road was unblocked, cars and portable stage were returned.

The National Council held a rally in Zugdidi.

The National Council was restored this year on the initiative of the six parties, supporting primaries. Their aim is to struggle with Saakashvili regime and topple it through peaceful and constitutional methods as soon as possible.

The electoral staff of the Council is headed by Zurab Noghaideli.
