Georgian president says Russia's embargo 'senseless'

28 December 2009 [16:16] - TODAY.AZ
Russia’s ban on import of Georgian products has “exhausted” itself and it “makes no sense,” President Saakashvili said while visiting a tangerine farmer in Adjara Autonomous Republic on Dec. 28.
“We have exported this year to CIS countries three times more [tangerine] than in previous years,” he said.

“Belarus and Kazakhstan and other countries signed customs agreement with Russia; and these countries were under huge pressure from Russia to close their markets for the Georgian products, but they did not close.”

“So Russia’s embargo has actually exhausted itself and it makes no sense; they themselves won’t be able to eat our tangerine; others will eat it instead – that’s it,” he added.
