Iranian Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati and his Russian counterpart Elvira Nabiullina held a meeting in Moscow to forge closer banking ties on Thursday evening.

Hemmati and Nabiullina discussed ways to enhance banking and financial ties between the two countries, according to the official website of Iran’s central bank on October 4.

The meeting came after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin met recently and discussed the expansion of ties in the era of US sanctions against Tehran, the report added.

Hemmati has traveled to the Russian capital at the head of a high-ranking delegation.

Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei was also present in the Thursday meeting.

Increasing the level of brokerage relationships, financing civil projects, and boosting trade ties were also explored at the meeting.
