UAE eyes to join Russia-Kazakhstan Baiterek Rocket and Space Complex

The United Arab Emirates voiced interest in joining the Russia-Kazakhstan Baiterek Rocket and Space Complex project.

The topic was mulled during a trilateral meeting of First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for President Affairs of the UAE Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Rogozin within the framework of the 15th International Aerospace Exhibition Dubai Air Show - 2017, Kazakh media reported referring to the Kazakh PM's press service.

The parties discussed the possibility of developing joint investment projects in the space sector using high-tech innovative developments. The UAE familiarized with the current state of activity of the Baikonur Cosmodrome and the prospects for its further development.

To develop a further partnership strategy and coordinate their activities, the sides agreed to establish a tripartite working group for joint projects in the space industry.

The Baiterek Rocket and Space Complex project, a joint venture between Kazakhstan and Russia co-located with Baikonur, was launched in 2004. The project, aims to develop the environmentally friendly launch vehicle of the Angara family of rockets.

The first launch of the joint project is scheduled for 2025, said Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Defence and Aerospace Industry Marat Nurguzhin, reported Sputnik Kazakhstan in early March.
