UNSC expands list of items banned from export to North Korea

The international community continues its attempts to stop Pyongyang from its missile program and nuclear tests.

The Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council on North Korea has expanded the list of export prohibitions on October 23, RIA Novosti reported.

The list included items, materials, equipment, dual-use goods and technologies related to weapons of mass destruction. In total, the UN committee that monitors sanctions against Pyongyang has added 32 goods to a list of banned items.

These items range from ring magnets, software for neutronic calculations/modeling to particle accelerators, seismic detection equipment and radiation-hardened television cameras, according to the report.

The document was prepared and submitted to the UN Security Council as well as distributed in the UN documents system.

In such a way international structures and institutions are trying to prevent Pyongyang from developing its nuclear ballistic missile program.

The EU Council previously put new restrictions on North Korea targeting the country’s oil trade, financial transactions and the establishment of joint ventures.

The EU action follows sanctions announced by the UN last month, which came after nuclear tests, missile tests and war-like rhetoric from the North Korean regime.

The United Nations Security Council has unanimously imposed a set of sanctions against North Korea on September 11 over the country’s hydrogen bomb test which was conducted on September 3.

The sanctions included limits on import of crude oil and oil products, a ban on textile exports and new visas for North Korean oversees workers.

However, North Korea tested another missile on September 15 in response to the latest set of sanctions imposed by the UN.
