The 9th International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival is underway in Baku.

The festival is co-organized by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in accordance with the Azerbaijani President's executive order on celebration of the 90th anniversary of the world-renowned cellist.

Each day of the festival presents music lovers the unforgettable concerts featuring the best international soloists and orchestras, which have arrived in Baku.

Acclaimed musicians and ensembles from Russia, Austria, and Germany, including  the Saint Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by of Yuri Temirkanov, Staatskapelle Dresden Orchestra,  Chamber Orchestra Vienna – Berlin as well as Rainer Honeck, Omer Meir Wellber, Keith Armstrong and others please spectators with fascinating performances.

In an interview with Day.Az, Rainer Honeck, conductor of "Vienna - Berlin" Chamber Orchestra spoke about his first impressions of the capital. The maestro loved the city and he's going to come here again, but as a tourist.

Canadian pianist Jan Lisiecki said that he really liked how Baku unites the old and the new.

Omer Meir Wellber, conductor of Staatskapelle Dresden Orchestra, for his part, said that he has many friends from Azerbaijan, and his music teacher was Baku resident.

"We had time to walk around the city and I even bought CDs with Azerbaijani music. I love Baku, and I really want to come here again," added the maestro.

The City of Winds made a great impression on musicians.
