Completion of construction and opening of the Garlyk Mining and Processing Plant in Turkmenistan was discussed during the visit of Chairman of the Belarusian National Assembly’s Council Mikhail Myasnikovich to Ashgabat, reads a message from the Council.

The opening of the Garlyk Mining and Processing Plant is scheduled for March 31.

The Belarusian Belgorkhimprom JSC has been constructing the plant, worth more than $1 billion, since June 2009. The plant is intended for production of 1.4 million tons of fertilizers per year.

Garlyk, a large potassium salt field located in Koytendag District of Turkmenistan’s Lebap Province, will be the plant’s raw material source.

“The new industrial giant has great importance for social and economic development of the Lebap Province and the entire country. It will produce high-quality potassium mineral fertilizers completely meeting the needs of Turkmen agriculture,” the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper said earlier in a report about the Garlyk plant.
