Iran has announced that the country will not authorize the European Union to open an office in Tehran.

Human Rights Staff Chief Mohammad Javad Larijani made the remark while commenting on the recent EU strategy resolution on Iran.

“This office will be a "house of corruption ", and the judiciary of Iran will not tolerate this,” ISNA quoted Larijani as saying.

“The report has many problems,” Larijani said, adding that the EU is not entitled to “tell us we have to mend ourselves.”

The statements come a day after the Iranian Foreign Ministry hailed the EU’s resolution on “normalization of ties with Iran.”

“This issue [passing the resolution] demonstrates the positive will of the EU towards expansion and deepening of bilateral ties with Iran in all spheres,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said.

As the report indicates, the EU “passed” a resolution on October 25 on the Islamic Republic, namely the EU strategy towards Iran after the nuclear agreement.

“Acknowledging the Islamic Republic’s international and regional role in establishing stability and peace in the region, the resolution emphasizes on the necessity of the constructive participation of our country in resolving regional disputes as well as fighting terrorism, in particular Daesh [the “Islamic State” terrorist group] and other similar groups…,” Qasemi said.

The resolution also calls for expansion of ties with Iran in diplomatic, economic, energy, scientific, educational and research fields, according to the spokesperson.

The EU announced its intentions to open an office in Tehran on the one-year anniversary of (JCPOA) — the nuclear deal signed with Iran by the five world powers led by the United States.

Relations between the EU and Iran have been through different stages and most recently, over the last decade, conditioned by the international dispute over Iran's nuclear program, and the consequent sanctions regime imposed against Iran.

The total trade between Iran and the EU in the first five months of 2015 amounted to 2.976 billion Euros, showing a 6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2014.

The value of Iran-EU bilateral trade in the corresponding period last year stood at 2.81 billion Euros, according to the Eurostat data.
