Uzbek party nominating its leader as presidential candidate

A plenary session of the political council of the Adolat (Justice) Social-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan decided to nominate Nariman Umarov, the political council’s chairman, as a candidate for president.

According to the party’s charter, a candidate for president of Uzbekistan is nominated by a Kurultay (Assembly). The next Kurultay of Adolat is scheduled for October 15.

Uzbekistan will hold an early presidential election Dec. 4. The election will be held in accordance with the country’s constitution due to the death of President Islam Karimov.

Four political parties in the country have the right to nominate their candidates.

They are the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, Democratic Party Milly Tiklanish (National Revival), People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and Social Democratic Party Adolat (Justice).
