Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its contribution to normalization of relations with Russia.

Speaking with TRT Haber June 28, he also thanked Kazakhstan for its contribution to this process.

“The process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Russia has started,” added Yildirim.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a letter of condolences to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin June 27 over the death of Russian Su-24 pilot and expressed regret over the incident.

Erdogan said Turkey "shares the pain of the downed Su-24 pilot's death with his family" and "sees it as Turkey's pain".

The relations between Russia and Turkey deteriorated after the Su-24 bomber incident.

Following the incident, Russia's President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on taking measures for ensuring the country's national security and special economic measures against Turkey.

Earlier, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a letter to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the occasion of Russia Day.

In his letter to Putin, Erdogan said he wishes the Russian-Turkish relations to reach a "deserved level".

Commenting on the issue, a source in Turkish presidential administration earlier told Trend that Turkey has never closed diplomatic channels with Russia.
