Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has approved national plan to fight human trafficking in 2016-2018, the Turkmen government's message said May 30.

"Implementation of all planned activities and measures will directly contribute to ensuring human rights and freedoms, the strengthening of social and legal protection of the population, as well as the improvement of the work carried out in this direction," said the message.

Turkmenistan adopted the law "On combating human trafficking" in December 2007, according to which the Article 129 that provides the penalty of imprisonment was introduced into the criminal code.
