Iran supreme leader’s advisor to meet Russian defense minister

Ali Akbar Velayati, advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, intends to meet with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in Moscow Feb. 3, RIA Novosti reported citing a source in Iranian delegation visiting Russia.

“Velayati plans to meet with Shoigu in the afternoon,” said the source.

“The meeting was not planned in advance,” the source added, noting that the decision on holding it was taken Feb. 3.

Velayati has been on a visit to Moscow from Feb. 1.

He has recently met with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov and Russia’s special envoy on Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev.

Velayati has been recently reported to say that Tehran is ready to develop strategic partnership with Russia in all the spheres, adding there are all conditions to accelerate economic cooperation. Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 3

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s advisor for international issues is on a visit to Moscow from February 1-4. He has recently met with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov and Russia's special envoy on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev.
