Downing of Russian fighter to complicate Syrian crisis, Iran says

25 November 2015 [13:18] - TODAY.AZ

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jaber Ansari said any act that flouts a common will in fighting terrorism in Syria will further complicate the crisis in the country.

Referring to Turkey’s November 24 downing of a Russian fighter, Ansari said such moves will act as hints to terrorists, indicating that they can commit more terrorist acts around the world, said the message on the official site of the foreign ministry.

The success of efforts made against terrorism depends on unified will, Ansari said.

The incident further illustrated the sensitivity of the Syrian case and the extent to which it can influence international peace, the diplomat stated.

On November 24 evening, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a phone conversation discussed the recent developments with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

Earlier that day, a Russian fighter was downed by Turkey in the Turkish territory.

Russia started to bomb Islamic State (IS, aka ISIL, ISIS, or Daesh) positions in late September.

Turkey’s act comes at a time when the country says is part of a US-led coalition against the terrorist group which was launched in early 2015.
