Iran’s economy not dependent on oil revenues

19 November 2015 [19:03] - TODAY.AZ

Iran has created a trade system which is not dependent on oil revenues, Mojtaba Khosrotaj, first deputy minister of industry, mine and trade told RIA Novosti.

He noted that the country spends oil revenues on developing the infrastructure and national projects.

Khosrotaj said that following the Islamic Revolution, Iran has pursued a policy of self-sufficiency and relied on its own production.

The major part of the products is consumed in the domestic market, he said, adding that 50-70 percent of the products are manufactured within the country, while the remaining part is imported.

But now, when the doors of Iranian market are opening for other countries, it is necessary to find out in which spheres the country has competitive advantage and to restructure the areas in which Iran is not competitive, according to Khosrotaj.
