The decrease in import of cars from Georgia into Azerbaijan continues, as the country imported almost five times less cars in eight months of 2015.

Over 2,840 cars, which are 4.8 times less than the same period last year, were exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in January-August 2015, the National Statistical Service of Georgia reported.

According to the report, during this period vehicles worth a total of $51.24 million were exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan.

The share of this category in the total volume of Georgian exports to Azerbaijan for the first eight months of this year amounted to 29.7 percent. The share of Azerbaijan in the country's total exports in this category is 41.1 percent.

Compared with the same period last year, the export of passenger cars from Georgia to Azerbaijan in terms of value decreased by 3.55 times, in quantity by 10,950 cars.

For comparison, in January-August 2014, Georgia exported to Azerbaijan 13,790 cars for $182.13 million.

The decrease in cars import is an after-effect of the Euro 4 ecological standard that was introduced in Azerbaijan since April 2014.

At present, only cars produced in the EU since 2005, in the U.S. since in 2004, in China and Japan since 2011, in Korea since 2006, and in Turkey since 2009 can be imported to the country.

About 40 percent fall of car import was noted in 2014 end. Azerbaijan imported 63,368 vehicles last year against 104,385 vehicles imported in 2013, the State Customs Committee reported.

Introduction of Euro-4 has significantly limited the import of used cars, which make up most of the vehicles imported from Georgia to Azerbaijan. Cars are delivered to Georgia from abroad.

Moreover, Azerbaijan reduced the import of goods from Georgia to 2.2 times in eight months of 2015 compared with the same period last year. In this period, goods worth $ 172.65 million were exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan, accounting for 11.8 percent of total Georgian exports.
