Turkmenistan's capital of Ashgabat hosted the Turkmen-Kazakh business forum on August 25, which was attended by representatives of Turkmenistan's ministries, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, as well as a delegation from Kazakhstan.

Forum participants noted that Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan intend to realize opportunities to enhance mutually beneficial trade and economic ties.

They also voiced prospects for mutually beneficial ties and made concrete proposals to promote the expansion of contacts.

The production of construction materials, along with the construction, electricity, chemical, pharmaceutical, medical, and food industries were mentioned as priority areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The establishment of close relations in the field of space technology was among the most discussed topics of the meeting.

Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are linked not only by geography, but also by the cultural and historical ties of the two peoples. The two countries established the diplomatic relations in 1992.

Kazakhstan mainly exports vegetables, tobacco, flour, and chemical products to Turkmenistan, while it imports mineral and chemical products from its neighbor.

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan exports oil products, cotton and textile goods, natural gas (transit), liquid pumps, and construction materials to Kazakhstan, and imports metal products, natural calcium phosphate, wood and wood products, as well as flour, pastry, confectionery products, and fruit juices.
