Turkmenistan to increase wheat harvest

Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has signed a decree on the wheat crop production in 2016.

The document stipulates the allocation of 760,000 hectares of land for winter crops and the harvest of 1.6 million metric tons of wheat the next year.

It is planned to start sowing in all the regions of the country on August 19.

In mid-July it was reported that 1.4 million metric tons of wheat was harvested in Turkmensitan this year.

In 2011, Turkmenistan started for the first time to export the surplus wheat.
