US, Iran not to share Middle East

31 July 2015 [13:04] - TODAY.AZ

There are no prospects for normalization of relations between the US and Iran, Gordon Hahn, professor of the Monterey Institute of International Studies, analyst and advisory board member at Geostrategic Forecasting Corporation, told Trend July 31.

Hahn was commenting on the normalization of relations between the two countries following the nuclear deal reached between Tehran and the P5+1.

“I do not see any prospects for normalization given different long-term strategic interests in the Middle East between the US and Iran, such as Israel's right to exist and Iran’s long-term role and goals in Iraq, Yemen, Bahrain, etc.,” said Hahn.

Iran and P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China and Germany) reached a historic agreement on Iran’s nuclear program July 14.
The negotiations ended with adoption of a joint comprehensive action plan.

If Iran carries out this plan, the economic and financial sanctions earlier imposed on it by the UN Security Council, the US and the EU will be lifted.
