Iran says have decisive will for achieving nuclear deal

02 July 2015 [14:42] - TODAY.AZ

Secretary General of Iran ’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said that Islamic Republic has decisive political will to achieve a “fair and balanced agreement” with the P5+1 over its nuclear program.

Shamkhani made the remarks during a meeting with Yukiya Amano, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Tehran on July 2, Iran ’s official IRIB news agency reported.

Shamkhani called for improving the IAEA technical role in cooperation with the members, criticizing the international body over what he claimed standing away of its “legal status.”

The Iranian official further said that if the IAEA neglects its true status, it would lose members’ trust on real and positive functions of the organization.

Active cooperation based on conventional rules and implementing accepted legal obligations is Iran ’s principle in dealing with international organizations, Shamkhani said.

Amano is also scheduled to meet with Iranian president Hassan Rouhani during his one-day stay in Tehran. A source close to the Iranian nuclear negotiating team said that Amano visit is aimed to receive Iran ’s proposals on the nuclear issue to resolve misunderstandings.

As Iran has refused to let its nuclear scientists be interviewed, the IAEA is seeking to receive Iran ’s proposals in this regard.

On June 8, Amano said United Nations inspectors must be permitted access to suspect Iranian sites, including possible military ones, for “years and years” to restore confidence in the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.

Amano said it would take years for the UN’s atomic agency to come to a final broader conclusion that Iran ’s nuclear program is fully peaceful.

Iran and the P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) are in intensive talks to hammer a comprehensive nuclear agreement until July 7. The sides reached framework deal in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2.
