Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan has said his country has never had a goal to create a nuclear weapon.

Mohsen Pak Ayeen told Trend that the 2007 and 2012 reports, covering information by 16 U.S. security agencies, said Iran’s nuclear activities have no military dimensions.

Pak Ayeen said Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued a fatwa (religious decree) saying that the use of a nuclear weapon is a sin and the U.S. officials have repeatedly referred to this fatwa.

He went on to say that Israel is the main country that opposes the nuclear agreement, while it maintains 200 nuclear weapons of its own and is not a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Israel has claimed since 1992 that Iran will create a nuclear weapon in two or three years and this has paved the way for sanctions against Iran, according to the diplomat.

Pak Ayeen said Iran won’t surrender under pressure and won’t accept the illegal demands.

Iran and the P5+1(the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) reached a framework nuclear deal in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2. The sides agreed to finalize a comprehensive nuclear deal by June 30, but have missed the deadline.

The six major powers and Iran have decided to extend the deadline for clinching a comprehensive nuclear agreement on Iran from June 30 until July 7, U.S. State Department’s Persian Language Spokesperson Alan Eyre, who is a member of the U.S. nuclear negotiations team, wrote on his Facebook page.
