Iran says bombing terror attempt nipped in bud

29 May 2015 [16:31] - TODAY.AZ

Iranian Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said that a bombing attempt in the country has been discovered and prevented.

A terrorist group in Sistan-Baluchestan Province was found to have on agenda a number of bombing operations in Mashhad in the northeastern Razavi Khorasan province, but all their equipment were discovered and confiscated, he said.

The Zahedan-based terrorist group had already taken hostage an international fencing athlete, but they were identified and attacked, freeing the athlete, Alavi said, IRNA news agency reported May 29.

The enemies of the Islamic Republic are using all in their power to challenge the country’s security, he noted.

The entire sedition attempts of enemies have been foiled, Alavi said.

“Our intelligence coverage has overwhelmed them, wherever they went, they were within the sight of the security forces of the Islamic Republic.”

The intelligence minister stated that there is no blind spot in Iran's intelligence coverage and there is not a single day when an attempt by enemies is not discovered and diffused.

Last year on the Quds Day, suicide attempts in Shiraz and Zahedan were discovered and foiled, Alavi said.

In the past year there have been a number of terrorist attempts in Iran, especially in Sistan-Baluchestan and Khuzestan provinces.

A terrorist group shot dead two soldiers and a teacher in southeastern Iran. Later, Iran said it had disbanded the group.

Also, Jaish ul-Adl group took several Iranian soldiers hostage last year. Later on it freed all except one, who had been killed under custody.

Iran has said that the terrorist groups belong to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
