Asia, Africa should cooperate to deal with unilateralism - Rouhani

24 April 2015 [11:59] - TODAY.AZ

Asia and Africa should cooperate to deal with unilateralism, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran after coming back from the 60-th Commemoration of Asian-African Conference in Jakarta, capital city of Indonesia, Rouhani said dealing with unilateralism is a very important measure on the international arena, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported on April 24.

Fighting terrorism was the key subject of discussion in the conference, he said, adding that terrorism in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen was especially discussed.

“We held talks with presidents of China, Vietnam, and Indonesia, and prime ministers of Japan and Bangladesh. They all sought to expand ties with Iran and congratulated the Iranian nation for perseverance in the nuclear talks,” Rouhani said.

All Muslims should break their silence against terrorist groups, which have caused the greatest harm to Islam, he added.

The conference's stated aims are to promote Afro-Asian economic and cultural cooperation and to oppose colonialism by any nation. The conference was an important step toward the Non-Aligned Movement.
