Romania is one of the strongest supporters of Georgia and we hope for a fruitful cooperation with our Georgian counterparts, Romanian defense minister said.

Mircea Dusa, who is on an official visit in Tbilisi, said regional security issues and the reforms already implemented and scheduled for the future in Georgia’s defensive scope were the major issues discussed at the meetings.

Dusa spoke highly of the ongoing reforms in the Georgian defense sphere and thanked Georgian Defense Minister, Mindia Janelidze for Georgia’s significant contribution to global security.

Janelidze, in turn, appreciated the Georgian-Romanian cooperation in view of NATO and the EU integration, as well as in a bilateral format.

He added that the top priority of 2015 was effective execution of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package. He also delivered his gratitude to Dusa for Romania's readiness to send a representative to the NATO Core Team.

A NATO Core Team will start active work towards the implementation of the NATO-Georgia Substantial Package before long. Romania will send a representative to take up the position of Deputy NATO Core Team Leader since it views Georgia as one of the most important partners for NATO.

Dusa promised that Romania will offer its strong support as Georgia works towards implementing the NATO-Georgia Substantial Package.

The Romanian official discussed the Georgian-Romanian cooperation in the defensive sector, as well as Georgia’s relations with NATO and the EU in a meeting with Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili.

The pair discussed the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit, due to be held in Riga in May, and Georgia’s expectations of the event.

Garibashvili thanked Dusa for his country’s support for Georgia's territorial integrity and European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. He once again expressed his concern over Russia’s signature of the so-called treaties on Alliance and Strategic Partnership with Georgia’s breakaway regions Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions.

Ceasing the opportunity, Garibashvili invited Dusa to the upcoming conference on Georgia's defense and security, which will be held in Batumi on June 25-27.
