Kazakh company plans to build power plants operating on renewable energy

Kazakhstan’s Samruk-Energo company plans to build a number of power plants operating on renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan from 2015 to 2019, the company told Trend.

The company plans to construct a wind farm with the capacity of 60 megawatt (with the possibility of reaching 300 megawatt) in the Shelek corridor in the mentioned period.

Moreover, Samruk-Energo plans to construct two new wind farms with the capacity of 50 megawatt and 2015 megawatt near the Yereimentau city.

Another wind farm with the capacity of 45 megawatt (with the possibility of reaching 300 megawatt) will be commissioned in H1 of 2015 near the Yereimentau city, according to the company.

Samruk-Energo also plans to construct a solar power plant with the capacity of 50 megawatt (with the possibility of reaching 100 megawatt) near Kazakhstan’s Kapshagay city.

Additionally, Kazgidrotehenergo LLP, the subsidiary of Samruk-Energo, will construct seven small hydro power plants in Kazakhstan in coming years. It is also planned to construct counter-regulatory Kerbulak hydro power plant on the Ili River.

Alongside with rich hydrocarbon reserve, 60 percent of Kazakhstan’s territory has the potential to use solar, wind and water energy.
